Coin cases for coins up to 40 mm in diameter, made from solid wood and Italian velvet, handcrafted in our workshop in Italy. Each compartment measures 40×40 mm: there is a single-compartment coin box for an important piece, and models with 4, 5, 6, 12, 16, 20 and 30 compartments for silver dollars, silver 1000 lire and 20 lire Littore.
When to choose the 40 mm compartment
This size is right for coins larger than 30 mm but no wider than 40 mm. Measure the diameter at the widest point; if the coin is in a capsule, measure the outer diameter of the capsule, because that is what sits in the compartment. Typical examples include the silver 1000 lire, the silver dollar, Canadian dollar, 20 lire Littore, the Vittorio Emanuele 5 lire and the 20-dollar gold coin. If the capsule exceeds 40 mm, see our coin cases up to 50mm; for sovereigns and smaller coins, the coin cases up to 30mm will do.

Materials and craftsmanship
- Solid wood in Toulipier and birch, black-stained birch or walnut-finish wood.
- Italian velvet: the colour can be chosen on many models; the 12-compartment black birch coin box is available in 18 colours.
- Numbering: many pieces are individually numbered and come with a certificate of authenticity.
- Construction: several coin boxes are made without solvents or chemical products.
Silver coins: how to store them
One compartment per coin prevents pieces from touching each other. Handle coins by the edge, avoiding contact with the faces, and keep the coin box in a dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Frequently asked questions
How do I know whether I need a 40mm compartment?
If the coin, or its capsule, is larger than 30 mm but no wider than 40 mm, this is the right size. Above 40 mm, move up to coin boxes with 50×50 mm compartments.
How many coins does the largest coin box hold?
The largest models have 30 compartments of 40×40 mm. For fewer pieces there are coin boxes with 1, 4, 5 and 6 compartments.
Can I use them for minerals or gemstones?
Yes, the 12-compartment coin boxes with 40×40 mm compartments are also well suited to medals, minerals, fossils, gemstones and shells (malacology).
Is there a model with glass?
Yes, the customisable 6-compartment coin box is also available with 3 mm glass, making it a small display case.
Can I choose the velvet colour?
On many models, yes. The 12-compartment black birch coin box offers Italian velvet in 18 colours.
