Pen trays in wood and Italian velvet, with a separate slot for each fountain pen or ballpoint. Available in an 11-slot birch tray with walnut finish and a 17-space tray with padded moiré satin lining, handmade in our workshop in Italy, as well as the MasterPhil pen tray in blue flock for 5 pens. Suitable for use on a desk, in a drawer or inside a display cabinet.
11 or 17 slots: how to choose
Count the pens you want to keep on the tray and leave a few spaces free for future additions. Then think about where you will use it: the tray has no lid, so it works on a desk, in a drawer or inside a display cabinet.
| Tray | Slots | Key details |
|---|---|---|
| Birch tray with walnut finish | 11 individual slots | Solid birch wood, Italian velvet and padded satin lining |
| Velvet and moiré satin pen tray | 17 spaces | 3 mm padded base, Italian velvet in 18 colours, certificate of authenticity |
| MasterPhil pen tray in blue flock | 5 pens | Thermoformed, 10.5×17.5 cm: the smallest size |
What the padded base is for
Each pen sits in its own space and does not touch the one next to it. The padded moiré satin cradles both barrel and cap without pressure, while the velvet cushions knocks and friction when you place or pick up a pen.
- On the desk: everyday pens stay visible and within reach, without opening cases.
- In a drawer: the collection stays organised, and the tray can be lifted out whole whenever you want to look at it on a table.
- In a display cabinet: at home or in a shop, inside a closed cabinet, every pen is immediately visible and has its own fixed place.
Velvet colours and finishes
For the 17-space tray, choose the velvet from 18 colours to complement your décor or make your pens stand out. The 11-slot tray is in solid birch wood with a walnut finish, available in several versions: the product page for each one shows the version pictured. The 17-space trays come with a certificate of authenticity.
Pen tray, case or cabinet
The tray is open: it is ideal if you want to see and reach your pens every day. If you need a lid or want to carry them with you, take a look at pen cases and boxes. If your collection grows beyond a few dozen pieces, pen cabinets offer drawers lined in velvet. For a shop counter there are pen display stands.
Before deciding where to keep your finest pens, read how much a fountain pen is worth; all storage options are in the pens section.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the 11-slot tray and the 17-space tray?
The 11-slot tray is made from solid birch wood with a walnut finish. The 17-space tray has a moiré satin base with 3 mm of padding and Italian velvet in a choice of 18 colours.
Does the tray have a lid?

Are they suitable for both fountain pens and ballpoints?
Yes, the slots are designed for fountain pens and ballpoints alike. For larger fountain pens, check the dimensions listed on the individual product page.

No, the blue flock tray is a MasterPhil product that we resell: it is thermoformed, measures 10.5×17.5 cm and holds 5 pens. The other trays are handmade in our workshop.
Can I choose the velvet colour?
For the 17-space tray, yes, from 18 colours. For the 11-slot tray, the available versions are shown on each product page.
